What is Prayer?

Click the player above to hear a commentary on prayer.

*The short prayer I use at the end of this commentary

was given on Sunday August 10th 1958 by that

Master of Love and Peace - Jesus, after the third

of THE TWELVE BLESSINGS, through the

yogic mediumship of Sir George King.

Basically there are two main schools of thought regarding prayer. Firstly there is the asking God, or an agent of God to do something for our relatives, friends, mankind or ourselves. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this as long as it is not selfish. Having said this I am sure we have all heard the tongue-in-cheek song about "Oh Lord won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz". Well, it is not the sort of request that I would make . . .

Secondly, there is the attitude that God has given us the ability to channel energy for the benefit again of relatives, friends, mankind or even yes, ourselves. This allows US to actually stand on our own feet and perform virtual miracles, while acknowledging that it is by God's good grace that we can do this.

There are three quite separate aspects of Prayer which may need explanation.

We have the question of posture - whether to kneel, stand, sit, put the hands together as most 'Christians' and others would do, or to raise them up and keep them separate. Then there is the actual wording, how to say it, and where our thoughts, concentration and feelings are centered at the time. Finally there is 'Karma', this is to do with both motive - why we are doing it, and whether the requested help, guidance or end result will be allowed to manifest. These will now be dealt with in turn.

1) ... Let us deal with the body posture and hand positions first.

Prayer is about channeling energy (chi / ki / prana), and it is sent out through the palms of the hands and the heart 'chakra' which is located in the middle of the chest in front of the breast bone.

Location of the hand and heart chakras

Location of major Psychic Centres (Chakras).

Let us consider why the 'hands together' position is used in churches and in many other religious movements. In such places as India, Tibet and ancient Egypt it has long been known about the channeling of energy. A great Master like Jesus uses the same energy to heal as an evil 'black magician' does to hurt or kill. The difference is motive, not the energy itself. If a disciple came into the presence of their guru, teacher, master etc, reverence would be shown by putting the hands together (C) to keep the energies locked inside the body, so as not to subject a more elevated person to one's own lower vibrations, and to indicate that there is no intention to cause harm. With the hands tightly together the base of both thumbs are often placed in front of the breast bone to close off the heart chakra, or in some cultures other centres like the Brow / Christ chakra, in the middle of the forehead.

The most elevated energies a person can send out come through the chakra at the top of the head - the 'Crown Chakra', hence the idea of the Christian Halo, and the ring of feathers of the Native American Indians. So bending the head forward to expose this centre is indicative of great reverence or respect. This hand / head gesture is known as The Greeting Mudra', and was not originally intended for prayer.

Mankind has been influenced negatively for countless millennia by these evil magicians / manipulators, and they do know that prayer actually works. They cannot stop people praying, so they did the next best thing and persuaded the early Christians to pray with the hands together (C or E) to prevent the prayers from being effective. When people go to an 'orthodox' church and sit with the head bowered, hands together, and maybe even kneeling (D) any energy getting out is purely accidental leakage.

Prayer is about being open, not closed in. The correct way to pray is to keep the hands apart, level with or slightly higher than the shoulder, and facing forwards - like Leslie in picture H. Keep the fingers together, and the hand flat. Do not curl the fingers over if possible, although tiredness may encourage this. If the arms are tired then hold the hands down as in the chakra diagram above. If you are sat then when tired you can rest the backs of the hands on the knees - palms facing up and remembering to keep the fingers together and straight out. Visualise white light flowing from both hands - not from the fingers but from the centre of the palm, and also from the region of the breast bone, where the heart chakra is located, to the destination of the prayer. There are slight variations in posture such as the arms held out sideways like a cross with the hands facing forwards, or the arms straight in front, hands turned vertical with the thumbs only an inch or two apart.

You can see from my simple diagram below that correctly designed churches can function as radionic machines, not just convenient places to meet but to help the congregation channel even more 'prayer' energy . . .

Using the shape-power of the church building . . .

A correctly designed spire functions like a pyramid and draws energy down to behind the congregation. When they pray they pull this energy through themselves, sending it forward from their hands and heart chakra, to be similarly channeled through the priest and out to the destination of the prayer. The vestments A1, A2, B1, B2 are designed to help the priest do this. Note that although prayer is used in devotion and service, it has science, or should I say 'meta-science' behind it. It is for this reason that when modern churches became more like brick shoeboxes, and certain denominations simplified the 'ritual' the prayers became (even) less effective. It is also why most older churches are orientated east / west and are cross shaped in plan. Many such churches are on ley lines, which are the Earth's meridians, just like the ones in our auric bodies - well known to acupuncturists. It is along these lines that certain potent energies flow. It is the same 'science' as in The Great Pyramid at Giza and Stonehenge. The spires were originally not just for hanging bells in !!! There are churches with a spire at the 'cross-arms' or in a variety of other positions, but I would tend to think that this is for aesthetic reasons rather than to be radionically functional.

A Mosque in Pakistan

The rounded, onion-shaped domes and spires on mosques can be far more efficient than the straight sided conical spires of gothic churches.

2) ... The wording of prayer

Wording is far more important in many ways than posture as it can determine the magic - whether black, white or just 'grey'.

There is a specific formula for personal prayer which makes the whole thing far more meaningful, and effective when followed. Firstly - acknowledge the existence of God. When addressing God, it does not have to be an actual name, use "Oh Mighty God" for example, or "Oh Divine Creator". Use "Jehovah" or "Brahma" if you wish. It does NOT have to be "Allah" unless you so choose. There are many names for God, some are higher or lower than others. In the phrase "Oh Mighty God" the most important word is "Oh" for it is a higher name than "God".

Note: if you are familiar with the words "Om" and "AUM" remember that these should NEVER be used in normal conversation - they are holy words far above normal conversation. If you want to refer to them then say "The O. M.", "The A. U. M." or "The Word". This latter one being "The Word that was there in the beginning" as mentioned in The Book of John, in The New Testament.

Thank God for the opportunity and privilege of being used as a channel for prayer, especially if the prayer is for someone else.

If the prayer is for yourself then be absolutely honest in confessing your weaknesses and failings, strip your soul bare. Remember that this involves no other person - it is between you and God. Confess your jealousies, your hates, your illnesses and your shortcomings. You are breaking yourself down so that you can rebuild yourself up again. It is absolutely true that 'Confession is good for the Soul', It is the best mental medicine. I do not, nor have I ever agreed with the 'confessional' utilised by certain 'Christian' denominations. This was probably a way for 'puppet priests' to keep track of what their congregations were up to!

Acknowledge yourself as having a spark of The Divine within you, despite your failings ("I am a Divine Spark of God").

Make your request or plea, having complete confidence that IT WILL BE acted upon. Thank God and / or its agents for hearing the prayer - be grateful for the opportunity to perform the prayer. Include something like "whatever the future holds - Thy WILL be done!" - leave the outcome to God. Finally, if the prayer is for yourself change in the light of your plea.

Please be aware of the 'traps' . . .

During a war priests have been known to bless the allies against the enemy. This is Black magic! If you want to pray for a better outcome during a conflict then pray that those causing the conflict receive inspiration so that they do whatever is right, but it is not up to you (or I) to decide for them what is right. This principle applies to armies and individuals alike. If a person commits a grievous crime you may feel that you want to 'send them to Hell', but that would make you as bad as them, pray for their upliftment, that they be filled with God's love, light, and inspiration. You are trying to help them not fall as low as they may have otherwise done.

There is a popular invocation entitled 'THE GREAT INVOCATION', which contains the line "... May it close the door where evil dwells ...". We DO NOT ever shut evil in, we try to transmute (lift up) evil into something more spiritual. When I use this invocation I say "May it illumine those who in evil dwell" ALL people have a certain amount of freewill, and they should be allowed to make their own decisions. If it was a wrong decision then Karma will (at some stage) show them this, maybe through painful experience, but as a teaching, NOT a punishment. I am not saying that if you see someone being hurt by someone else you should not try to defend the weaker party - if you can safely do so. Contrary-wise - if a person makes a correct decision Karma will (at some stage) show them this. All people will unconditionally 'Reap what they sow'.

If a person is ill, do not visualise them as ill, but see them in your mind as being healthy. The image you must visualise is how you want them to be . . . See them filled with white light, active and lively.

One of the most important secrets of prayer is that when it has been performed - DETACH ... You have requested that God, or an agent of God will help you, or someone else - You have faith that it will be acted on (if Karma allows) Leave it to be dealt with as repeatedly dwelling on it shows lack of confidence in God. Also remember :-

The Love of God never fails

Love:- In a similar way that a radio signal is an electro-magnetic wave with sound (or some other information) superimposed on it, so too prayer is carried on LOVE energy. There are two basic forms of love - The lesser form is Personal love, which might be for a relative, partner or friend, and the other is Impersonal love, such as The Master Jesus has for mankind. He does not have personal love for every single individual, but has impersonal love for the race as a whole. When one prays for someone close it is easy to get too emotional, and that is not a good thing for prayer or healing. Emotions are basic feelings which are not totally under control. Great Masters like Jesus have tremendous feeling, but they do not get emotional - they have great control. In order to have effective prayer one must have impersonal love to carry the energy to its destination, but if emotions creep in the quality and potency of the energy will be lower and hence less effective.

3) ... Karma - As you sow, so shall you reap

Remember to always think of this law', it is not Man's law but God's.  This is the law which was instituted at the theoretical beginning, and governs all 'till the end. ALL manifestation, ALL beings, no matter how high they have evolved or how lowly are completely, at all times operating within this Divine law. Nothing and no one can get round it, no matter what anyone may say or believe. It is absolutely immutable, plu-perfect in its operation, and absolutely fair - it is no respecter of persons or position.

It can be stated simply, and has been from the very beginning of time that 'Action and reaction are opposite and equal' or as The Master Jesus applied it to Human activity 'As you sow, so shall you reap'. Note that it is unconditioned in that 'we SHALL reap what we sow'. Like an algebraic equation it can be transposed while remaining true, for example 'You cannot reap what you haven't sown'. Therefore when young Willy can play Beethoven on his piano at the age of three, it proves he has lived before, and therefore proves the existence of reincarnation. So too anyone who has been born with a physical or mental disability. If they were born innocent it would be unfair to subject them to that condition, and the law is not unfair. DO NOT however judge such a person, we all need help at times.

It is not a thing to fear, it is a useful tool that can aid our spiritual progression when we start to learn HOW to use it. A great teacher once said "Karma is a pressure towards conformity!". Forget John Lennon's "Instant Karma's out to get you", and think "When I help others I must, by law be helped". The more 'good' I do, the more help I will get, and even greater things will become possible for me to accomplish. Therefore it can be invoked strategically and positively by anyone!

The reason why this is laboured is that prayers are often said which cannot hope to be answered in the requested way. One good example is that line from the supposed 'Lord's Prayer'.. "Forgive us our tresspasses". This is basically a plea for our 'sins' to be forgiven. Save by Divine cancellation we SHALL reap what we sow. Also mentioned higher up the page is the request for the arms of the allies to be blessed against the enemy - be careful - we DO reap what we sow! This does not mean that if a person is ill we should say "Well, they obviously deserve it", we should try to help them. If their karma is such that they cannot be healed we have lost nothing, but that little bit of effort we expend in requesting their healing may be just enough to swing the karmic balance and free them from that illness. Of course when we request help for others, we MUST by karmic law invoke it for ourselves too, but that should not be the motive or we are getting into the wrong forms of magic.

Ritual

I say to you "When you flick that switch the light will come on!" You try it, and yes it does work. You do not have to understand about electricity, or the thermal characteristics of the bulb, or anything else that physically happens when the switch is flicked. The performance of an act to achieve a desired result, without having to understand the processes involved is what we call a ritual. You go through the ritual of throwing the switch to make the light work.

In mystical practices one is taught that 'do this and that happens', it is the same thing. One can learn the ins and outs of what actually is caused to happen, but in the earlier stages it is not essential.

When one performs prayer correctly there are many processes within and outside of ourselves that come into play.

Sir Oliver lodge stated that "No one can explain everything that happens when I wiggle my little finger!".

There is a basic conscious thought as to what end result is required, there is a sub-conscious interplay causing chemical, electrical and subtle energetic reactions within the body. The chakras in the subtle bodies vibrate in certain ways, chi / ki / prana is drawn in, imbued with our conscious thought vibrations and sent out again. We may mentally have to detach from local interference - the music in the flat upstairs, the traffic outside, the smell of cooking from the kitchen etc. The memory is accessed to visualise a person needing healing, or to remember certain words or sentences. We may have to guard against doing it wrong or stop the basic conscious mind from drifting onto something else like the lottery results or our own tiredness for example. There are the karmic implications - whether for us this prayer will invoke positive or negative karma.

When one starts to learn a little more there is shape power - the shape and orientation of the building, which may or may not give us access to increased levels of subtle energies. If one is a priest then there is the shape, colour and texture of the garments which are designed to help the flow of energies through and around the body and aura. The mitre works somewhat similar to a small pyramid, drawing inspiration in, and channeling subtle energies out from the crown chakra at the top of the head. There is the symbolic aspect which works both on a subconscious, and maybe even superconscious level, or actually affects the energies we channel -  through the use of charged stones / crystals / talismans etc. Pictures and relevant objects may serve as a focal point for our thoughts and visualisations, making them easier and / or more powerful. Don't forget that photos of someone or objects they have touched have a direct connection with them and that link can be used to send [healing] energy through.

We don't have to know technically how all this interelates and why and how, we just 'pray for someone or something'. We just perform the ritual of prayer!

Once 'prayer energy' has been invoked, and sent out it has to find a destination, like water that has to find a level. If the person sending out the energy visualises another person or location, then the vibration put into that prayer will be attracted to that focal point. If for example healing is sent to someone else, and if that person foolishly puts up a mental barrier to prevent the energy from entering their aura, it will be reflected back to its only other 'sympathetic vibration' - the person who is sending it. Each time it is reflected it multiplies in strength by a factor of four until one or the other person breaks down or allows it in. Healing energy is not harmful therefore there is no reason to reject it. The same energy used for evil intent of course can do considerable damage if powerful enough. If a spiritual healer's 'patient' rejects the energy the healer can allow it to come back with no ill effects, but negative energy reflected can harm the sender. Because of this, evil will always bring about its own downfall. Here is a short description of an actual case illustrating the point . . .

A senior business man went to India in line with his work. He discovered that a rival had paid a black magician to kill him using an evil ritual that night. The man went to a yogi and explained the situation. He was given a mantra (Sanskrit sound sequence) to repeat all night while seated on his hotel-room floor. This he did. The next day it was discovered that the black magician was dead - he had killed himself when the energy was reflected back so powerfully that he could no longer keep it out.
